It\u2019s more than just adding <em>\u2018Buy Now!\u2019 <\/em>to a caption or website button. Here are a few helpful tips for creating clear and effective calls-to-action that will hook your audience and generate more leads.<\/p>\n<h3>What is a call-to-action?<\/h3>\n<p>A call-to-action (CTA) is a prompt that tells your audience to do something specific. They\u2019re usually found at the end of a blog post, webpage, eblast, or ad, but can also appear on social media messages. An action is anything you want your visitor to do next. For a new home builder, this action could be: Join VIP\/Interest List, Schedule an Appointment, Contact Us, Save Favorites, View Floorplans, Chat Now, Get Directions, Sign Up for the Newsletter, and more.<\/p>\n<p>An effective CTA gives people a reason to click through while explaining why they should. If you want your audience to do a specific action, don\u2019t leave it up to chance and hope they do it; you need to tell them what to do next.<\/p>\n<p>CTAs focus visitors\u2019 attention on completing a specific action. Here are the components of an effective call-to-action.<\/p>\n<h3>Be clear and direct<\/h3>\n<p>Your CTAs should be clear and tell your audience exactly what you want them to do. People tend to move faster when they believe they might miss out on an opportunity.\u00a0 Using a phrase like \u201climited time\u201d is sure to help generate more leads if you\u2019re running a special promotion.<\/p>\n<h3>Make the benefit clear<\/h3>\n<p>Basically, what\u2019s it in for your audience? Explain why they should care and exactly what to expect to gain by clicking through. If you want them to signup, limit the amount of required information. Make sure your CTA stands out on the page, whether it\u2019s a link, image, or button. CTAs work best when they\u2019re placed:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Above the fold on a landing page<\/li>\n<li>In a pop-up message, whether a welcome message or a \u201cbefore you go\u201d pop up before leaving a page<\/li>\n<li>At the end or in the middle of a blog post<\/li>\n<li>At the end of a lead-capture form<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Be sure to include white space (empty area) around your CTA so it draws the eyes.
